What is SDSFIE Online?

The Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) are a family of IT standards (models, specifications) which define a DoD-wide set of semantics intended to maximize interoperability of geospatial information and services for installation, environment and civil works missions.

SDSFIE Online is a web-centric interface that enables users to access documentation, participate in functionality, and utilize models within tools/workflows that support the goals of the SDSFIE family of standards.

The SDSFIE family of standards consists of 7 parts:

  1. SDSFIE-Vector (SDSFIE-V)
  2. SDSFIE-Metadata (SDSFIE-M)
  3. SDSFIE-Raster (SDSFIE-R)
  4. SDSFIE-Data Quality (SDSFIE-Q)
  5. SDSFIE-Portrayal (SDSFIE-P) [to-be]
  6. SDSFIE-Services (SDSFIE-S) [to-be]
  7. SDSFIE-Endorsed Standards (SDSFIE-E) [to-be]

SDSFIE Online is designed in alignment of the following goals for the SDSFIE family of standards for the period 2013-2018, which the Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure (DISDI) Group (now IGG) endorsed on 15 May, 2013:

  • Advance and maintain SDSFIE in order to achieve interoperability for both data and systems, using accepted industry practices.
  • Promote implementation of SDSFIE DoD-wide.
  • Align SDSFIE with functional business mission requirements and the DoD Business Enterprise Architecture (BEA).
  • Maintain and sustain a coordinated SDSFIE program management process.
  • Educate, train, and support the implementation of SDSFIE within the user community.
